A technical fault at the airport's air traffic control meant no planes could arrive or depart from the facility.

Flight operations have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport after a substantial technical issue at the control tower halted all operations.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped due to an systems problem that arose around 08:30.

A number of travelers were left waiting in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.

Operations Restart with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

That said, significant disruption are anticipated to continue throughout the day. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with many others facing hold-ups.

A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that dozens of flights could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the current status on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the full ground stop to an systems failure with its ATC service provider.

Flyers are still being urged to check the status of their journey before traveling to the terminal as knock-on effects are worked through.
